Queen St West and John St. is the intersection located beside the old CityTv Building (now Bell Media), known for MuchMusic (founded by visionary pioneer Moses Znaimer). It has an energetic vibe and is located near the OCAD (Ontario College of Art and Design) and the AGO (Art Gallery of Ontario). Best yet, it sits very close to the Grange Park for a beautiful stroll in a public park. In the past (up to 2024), there was a wonderful Starbucks location here as seen in the photo.
For those who want to do some shopping on Queen West, or dine at its many excellent restaurants, or who might just want to stroll through downtown Toronto, it is an ideal place to start. To the east is the Eaton Centre and City Hall (Nathan Phillips Square), to the south is The Rogers Centre (formerly SkyDome, Toronto Blue Jays) and The Air Canada Centre (Toronto Raptors and Toronto Maple Leafs), to the north is The Art Gallery of Ontario – AGO – (tips: there are free admission days – check their website) and The University of Toronto (tips: visit Hart House), and to the west is New Chinatown and Kensington Market. If you venture south to King St West, there is the theatre district, The Tiff Bell Lightbox, and several fine dining restaurants. Just one block south is the Scotia Bank movie theatre (Richmond St. and John St.) to catch a movie (tips: Tuesday tickets are discounted).
For those interested in a Canadian outdoor store (such as equipment, cycling, hiking, rock climbing), check out MEC (Mountain Equipment Co-op) on 300 Queen St. W. The closest subway stop is Osgoode Station on the Yonge-University subway line (yellow line). There is also a Queen Street streetcar that goes east and west.
There’s a Spadina streetcar (a few blocks west of this spot) that goes north and south. The Spadina streetcar (north) will go to Chinatown, University of Toronto (St.George Campus), and the Annex (it ends at Spadina Station). If you take the Spadina South, it will take you to Queen Quay (Harbour Front) and the Union Station subway station (which connect to the Go Train and Go buses). Don’t forget to check out the BeaverTails pastry location if you make it to Harbour Front.
If you are wondering where North is, the lake (Lake Ontario) is to your south.
